Next, I would like to talk about ‘intelligent’. We aim to fully apply IoT throughout all of the elements of the manufacturing process to enhance automated learning functionalities. Under VG 2.0 we will focus on accelerating progress in 2 areas. Omron boasts the industry’s largest product lineup. Our first initiative will be to enable all of 100,000 models in our lineup for IoT. This will give our customers the ability to collect a massive array of data points, such as equipment vibration, changes in torque or motor noise, from throughout the manufacturing process and allow them to fully visualize the production process. The second initiative will be to launch the industry’s first AI-equipped controller in 2018. The defining characteristic of this controller will be that the AI algorithms will be embedded in the controller unit at the center of the actual manufacturing process, rather than being cloud-based. What makes this innovation possible is the extensive expertise Omron’s engineers have built up over decades of supporting its customers on the production floor. IoT-enabled equipment will detect a huge range of data from the production process, which will be collected by the AI-equipped controller. This massive data will make it possible for the controller to predict defects and equipment failure.
