Please turn to slide 27. Under VG 2.0, we will focus on 3 major social issues in Healthcare. First, we will focus on the area of cardiovascular disease. An estimated 1 billion people suffer from hypertension globally. Annually, a combined 17.5 million patients die from heart disease, stroke and other forms of cardiovascular disease. Medical expenditures for cardiovascular disease exceed an estimated ¥120 trillion yen. Second, we will focus on respiratory diseases. More than 400 million people suffer from respiratory conditions globally. Related medical expenditures for the developed countries alone are an estimated ¥19 trillion. Specifically in the case of asthma, the number of asthmatics that seek treatment in emerging markets is very low. In China, where there are serious air pollution issues, it is said that only 5% of an estimated patient pool of 20 million people receive treatment. This means that if air pollution were to deteriorate further in China or India and more people seek treatment, patient numbers could increase by multiples, further exacerbating surging medical expenses. To avert this scenario, something must be done soon. The third focus area is pain management. In conjunction with an aging population, an estimated 73 million people in the US and Japan suffer from chronic back or joint pain. Patient numbers continue to increase, driving up medical expenditures for analgesics. Omron will grow its Healthcare business by addressing these three focus areas.
