Innovation in IoT and Robotics technologies represents advances in Omron’s core technologies of Sensing & Control + Think. Enhancing our core technologies is our top priority under VG 2.0. Omron’s core technologies of Sensing & Control + Think consist of three technological areas: Deep Sensing Technology, Sensing-based Control Technology and Component Technology. Omron’s technologies do not consist of simply using sensing technology to detect information, which is then used in the control process. ‘+ Think’ refers to the fact that we extract and incorporate elements of human understanding in our technological process. By converting human understanding into valuable information we are then able to incorporate it into our devices. This capability is one of Omron’s strengths. Deep sensing technology allows us to extract and understand phenomena hidden inside people and objects and to convert it into valuable information. This technology is the root source of Omron’s competitive advantage. By combining this with AI technology, we will be able to achieve a greater depth in sensing target objects. Next, sensing-based control is flexible, real-time control based on sensing data. The combination of this technology with AI will allow for even greater flexibility in controlling target objects. Component technology makes it possible to achieve smaller form factors or other requirements by incorporating algorithms or software into products. An example would be a sensing device that is used to detect a driver’s level of alertness. Where there are form factor or other limitations, incorporating an algorithm into the IC makes it possible to maintain robust deep learning capabilities. We will be leveraging our component technology in driver sensing monitors. We will continue to focus on further developing these three technologies.
