- 00:47:08.7 Thank you. I am intrigued by the Zero Events initiative for HCB. I feel you should be more proactive in promoting this mission to beyond investors, targeting broad recognition of this mission by the general public. I feel this could be a valuable public relations tool for OMRON. The reason why I say this is because my mother passed away 5 years ago as the result of a cardiac event, despite showing no prior signs of elevated blood pressure. Her BP readings were stable at below 130 and 70 on average. She was very active and healthy but she passed away in her sleep. We conducted a post mortem, and the doctor determined that the cause of death was a heart attack.
We were told that blood pressure levels vary quite significantly over the course of a day. A device that can monitor on a 24-hour basis would have been very valuable. There was some suggestion that my mother’s blood pressure during sleep was elevated as a function of sleep apnea.
I was particularly interested to see you discuss devices on slides 35 and 37 that are able to monitor vitals on a 24-hour basis as a way of encouraging changes in patient behavior, in conjunction with diagnostic and treatment support services. I believe this is an area that will be extremely important as the population continues to age.
Good examples are wearable wrist-type devices that measure not only blood pressure but blood sugar levels. It is my understanding that there is considerable variance in blood pressure reading levels over the course of a day. Furthermore, I understand that the wider the range, the greater the damage to the blood vessels, so I see many potential opportunities.
I believe that OMRON needs to be much more proactive in communicating about its intention to focus more on these important fields, using media tools such as TV or newspaper advertising. My impression is that being more proactive here will drive up the value of your brand in a different manner. I would like to have a comment on this from President Ogino.
- 00:49:35.7 (Ogino) We first started to talk about Zero Events about two years ago. At that time, we were criticized by medical practitioners for being irresponsible in suggesting such a thing might be possible. We have finally managed to get the doctors on board and they now use the Zero Events terminology. We are now thinking about being more proactive in promoting this initiative. As a part of this, we have taken on the OM Zero Challenge, where we are aiming to achieve Zero Events with OMRON employees. We are taking blood pressure readings for all of our employees and those where issues are identified are seeking treatment. We are planning to go public with the OM Zero Challenge as a way of promoting Zero Events.
We have only just reached a stage where we have the support of medical practitioners in Japan for Zero Events, so we are on the verge of taking our initiatives to the next level. We are considering a number of different things.
- 00:50:45.0 Japanese corporates are also very focused on the health of their employees. I think there is much more you can do to work with corporates as well.
