【ノート】
Besides “human-oriented car-making,” SUBARU has constantly proposed “new technical values” in two different directions: exploration of new categories, and creation of new technologies. As for the exploration of new categories, we have created new automobile categories based upon SUBARU's core technologies, including horizontally-opposed engines and symmetrical AWD, such as: Touring wagons, which combined the utility of commercial vans, a sporty performance and the comfort of passenger cars; Outback, which adds rough-road capability to the characteristics of touring wagons; Crossover Utility Vehicles, represented by Forester and seen as a root of modern SUVs, that deliver both on-road and off-road performance and ease of getting in and out when ladder-frame cross country vehicles come to mind with the word “SUV”. Meanwhile, the creation of new technologies means that we have proposed and offered technologies that are beneficial to customers using our unique technological competencies. Examples of the technologies include the Subaru Global Platform developed with a focus on human senses, top-level passive safety performance realized with our proprietary technologies, and EyeSight. Speaking of EyeSight, the stereo camera technology was originally used for observing of internal combustion in engines. We started the development of stereo camera-based driver assist system in 1989 and launched it as a product in 1999. As these examples show, we have constantly developed and presented unique and proprietary technologies to the world and brought new values to cars. We think these attributes make us distinctive.
