【ノート】
As CEO Nakamura mentioned, SUBARU has engaged in car development with first priority given to safety since the start of our history. Starting in around the 1990, SUBARU's engineering division has enhanced its efforts to develop safer car under the slogan of “the world's best passive safety.” Although it was said at that time that customers do not pay for safety, we made steady efforts to improve safety performance. Meanwhile, we sometimes received thank you letters from overseas customers, saying, for example, “I was saved by SUBARU despite a severe accident,” which further encouraged us to improve safety performance. Thus, SUBARU cars now receive the top-level safety evaluations in the safety assessments in respective countries. We believe one of the major reasons for SUBARU's strong business performance in North America is the safety performance. While these third-party ratings are based on certain testing procedures reproducing common accidents, actual accidents do not always happen in the same way. So, we conducted additional research.
